Concert | NewSong Music: Maureen Andary / Farewell Milwaukee / Rose Polenzani

NewSong Music is an independent music organization with a two-fold mission to build a supportive community of performers and songwriters across all genres of music and levels of skill, and to identify the truly exceptional artists within this community and to work closely with them to develop their careers and introduce their music to a broader, international audience. NewSong, along with National Public Radio’s Mountain Stage show, hosts an annual performance and songwriting competition, now in its tenth year. The performers all participated in the Mountain Stage competition and exemplify the artistry supported by NewSound Music.

Maureen Andary is one half the Washington, DC based folk/pop/jazz duo The Sweater Set. A former Mountain Stage NewSong Finalist (2008), Maureen is the recipient of several grants from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, was an Artist in Residence at the Strathmore Center for the Performing Arts (2010–11), and just finished a tour with The Sweater Set performing with folk legend Michelle Shocked up and down the East Coast.

Farewell Milwaukee/Ben Lubeck, front man of the Minneapolis Americana-indie band Farewell Milwaukee which, focuses on the power of honest, confessional songwriting with no pretense or ulterior motives.

Rose Polenzani is a solo singer/songwriter who has spent the past few years curating and developing the collaborative project, “SUB ROSA,” a monthly live show that brings the best and brightest of Boston’s songwriters together with some of the most talented and adventurous musicians. The show's rich, layered harmonies and sprawling, dark, deep, playful instrumentation inspired the 13 new songs on Rose's upcoming August release, "The Rabbit." Rose has been nominated for three Boston Music Awards, and won the 2008 Mountain Stage Newsong competition for her song, “You Were Drunk,” off her 2008 album “When the River Meets the Sea.”
