Program: The Valley Lodge Blues, a musical revue by the Orfeo Duo and the Valley Lodge Players, directed by Katherine Howard Six Songs to Poetry of Yeats by Joyce Hope Suskind Sonata no. 1 for violin and piano by Matthew Barnson The Mount Morris Park Suite for piano trio and three percussionists by Nailah Nombeko Brother and sister Ishmael Wallace, pianist, and Vita Wallace, violinist, have performed together as the Orfeo Duo since childhood. Reviewers have praised their “magnificent performances,” saying “this kind of rapport is rare indeed” (Classics Today). Valley Lodge Players comprises residents and alumni of a shelter for older adults. Kristi Kelly, soprano, has recently appeared with Riverside Opera, Hudson Opera Theater, Commonwealth Opera, COSI, and Natchez Opera Festival. Sam Lazzara has played with entertainment legends from opera star Jessye Norman and Broadway legend Carol Channing to jazz great Roscoe Mitchell and punk pioneer Patti Smith.

Video | Documentary on U.S. Nuclear Propaganda: The Atomic Cafe (1982)


Directed by Jayne Loader, Kevin Rafferty and Pierce Rafferty. This compilation film was created entirely from American atomic propaganda of the 1940's and 50's. Without narration, it juxtaposes excerpts from newly-discovered and rarely-seen government and military films, television and radio shows, cartoons, and the "bomb songs" that saturated the airwaves. The film then reveals fifteen years of concerted efforts by the U.S. government to mislead the American public about nuclear testing and warfare. 88 min.

Park Walk | Public Art Tour: Tom Otterness' The Real World


Join contemporary art historian Dorothea Basile, a graduate of NYU’s Institute of Fine Arts, on a “walking conversation” of Otterness' work. Social and political commentary in the guise of gleeful abandon, the work is one of New York’s most popular artworks. Cast in bronze, the sculptures feature Otterness’ signature cartoonish figures: animals and people, bankers and robbers, laborers and pilgrims, 20th century intellectuals and athletes, predators and prey, all rubbing shoulders in his delightfully loopy narrative world.
