M’Lynn’s daughter is bride-to-be Shelby Eatenton. Their friend Truvy Jones fixes the women’s hair for the wedding ceremony, along with aspiring beautician Annelle Dupuy Desoto. Shelby has a diabetic health scare which is averted but means she may not be able to have children. As time passes, the women grow stronger and closer as they experience tragedy and good fortune.
