Featuring approximately one hundred works, it explores Pablo Picasso's creative process through the medium of printmaking, tracing his development from the early years of the twentieth century, with depictions of itinerant circus performers in the Blue and Rose periods, to his discovery of Cubism. The exhibition follows his evolving artistic vision through decades of experimentation in etching, lithography, and linoleum cut, demonstrating how each technique inspired new directions in his work. Adults are invited to celebrate the Park's trees on the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day. Ever marvel at the number and diversity of trees that make a home for themselves in the heart of the city? Wonder what makes such a thriving urban oasis possible? The Park provides habitat for over 24,000 trees, and 152 different species, including the largest contiguous stand of American Elms left in the country. Maintaining this many trees over the Park's 152-year history doesn't happen naturally; it takes careful planning, highly trained arborists, lots of public support, and -yes- a little help from mother nature. In this exhibit, explore the lives of the trees through their natural history and an innovative tree care program. This special Social Hour will include an exhibit interpretation by staff, refreshments, and plenty of time to enjoy the exhibit.

Lecture | The Economics of Happiness

A talk, workshop and special preview to the soon-to-be-released documentary film by Helena Norberg-Hodge. Norberg-Hodge argues that the policies being implemented to deal with today’s economic turmoil will only temporarily shore up a global system that is fundamentally unstable and incapable of meeting the needs of people and the planet. Her talk will highlight the inspiring psychological, social, and ecological benefits of economic localization, and the steps – at the community, national, and international levels – that can bring us there. Her presentation will include scenes from the rough cut of her new documentary film, The Economics of Happiness, which will be released later this year. Norberg-Hodge is a leading analyst of the impact of the global economy on culture, agriculture, and individual identity. Norberg-Hodge is director of The International Society for Ecology and Culture (ISEC), and is a co-founder of both the International Forum on Globalization (IFG) and the Global Eco-village Network. She is also a member of the International Commission on the Future of Food and Agriculture, and on the editorial board of The Ecologist magazine.

Performance | Opera on Tap: The Rockstar Characters of Opera

Hide your drugs! Hide your money! They're coming! Opera on Tap pays tribute to the tabloid-worthy rockstar characters of opera as only a divebar opera company can. You know who they're talking about....those characters that don't know when to call it a night, that order the unnecessary late night round of drinks, that can't help romancing the guys and gals they shouldn't, that innocently wake up in prison after a night of Viennese revelry, that run off with a star bullfighter? Get what they mean? Rock on opera rockers!
