Concert | Brass, Wind and Buckets with Metropolitan Brass Quintet and Drumadics

Music lovers are invited to bring lunch, join friends and relax to enjoy a taste of New York’s eclectic “underground” music scene. The Metropolitan Brass Quintet was formed in 2009 with the intent of bringing inspirational performances of new chamber music to New York City. Members of the group perform in local community bands, jazz ensembles and orchestras. The quintet has performed educational concerts and private events in addition to recitals at St. John the Divine and Church of the Holy Apostles. William B. Johnson’s Drumadics has been causing waves throughout NYC with the raw power of the bucket drum, the bands fusion of woodwind, stirring brass with traditional, contemporary, and unorthodox styles. Weaving colorful soundscapes, unforgettable melodies into contagious, electric energy, the ensemble dances at the musical crossroads of ‘melting-pot music,’ and whether in a nightclub or the subway, outdoors at Governor’s Island or B. B. Kings and Aaron Davis Hall, Drumadics is defining a truly American sound!

Theater | Shakespeare Outdoors: As You Like It

Pulse Ensemble Theatre's seventh Harlem Summer Shakespeare production is a multi-ethnic, open-air production of William Shakespeare’s comedy. As is the tradition with Pulse Theatre Ensemble’s Harlem Summer Shakespeare, this production keeps Shakespeare’s language intact whilst updating the world in which the characters live. In this contemporary version of As You Like It, Frederick is a millionaire in the image of Hugh Hefner or Donald Trump. He believes money rules the day. Duke Senior and his followers, on the other hand, live a rustic, free-spirited life somewhere between the 1960’s hippies and the Hari Krishna followers.
