Concert | Sainthood Reps, Indie Rockers

If someone happens to listen to or see Sainthood Reps and makes the decision to pick up an instrument, the band would consider this a mission accomplished. After all, that's how they got their start - inspired by the Long Island hardcore, punk and indie bands they grew up seeing. And in the frigid winter of 2009, Montesanto and Sherman joined by Bradley Cordaro and Jani Zubkovs, picked up their collective instruments, plugged them in, and made noise together for the first time; thus Sainthood Reps was born.

Opening Reception | The Cause Collective's The Truth Is I Am You, a “Floating Poem”

The Truth Is I Am You is a floating poem, highlighting the practices of co-existence that exemplify culturally diverse communities like New York City. As a continuation of The Truth Project, this installment is printed on silver helium inflated balloons, based on Andy Warhol's 'Silver Clouds,' which originally debuted in 1966. Each balloon displays a single line from the poem translated into the 25 most spoken languages by New York City residents. Starting with, “The truth is I am you” and ending with “The truth is I love you,” the piece attempts to use the 2,000 square foot exhibition space as a point of entry into other systems of considering who we are, what we value, where we come from, and where we are going. The Cause Collective is a team of artists, designers and ethnographers creating innovative art in the public realm. Their projects explore and enliven public spaces by creating a dynamic conversation between issues, sites, and the public audience.

Theater | Classical Theatre of Harlem presents Shakespeare's Henry V

Explore the brutally thoughtful, fiercely funny, belligerent diplomacy of King Henry V with The Classical Theatre of Harlem as they interpret William Shakespeare’s classic. Young King Henry V takes the throne, his dying father’s advice to “busy giddy minds with foreign quarrels” ringing in his ears. His reputation as a fun-loving lad who’s lived among the common folk inspires love from commoners and disregard from his enemies. He lays claim to France, and invades the country with a “band of brothers.” Join CTH’s powerful exploration of what it means for a king to bear the burdensome expectations of the crown – and the people to bear the expectations of the king – as Henry V works to win the hearts of all. Director Jenny Bennett pilots a nonstop, intense scrutiny of kings and citizens in this play that dissects humanity’s warmongering with gripping actors, a thrilling score and fierce dance.
