This will be a moderate-paced 12-mile hike along the East River, with great views of the river, bridges, islands and various landmarks. Walk up the East River Greenway, across the Ward's Island Bridge, across the Triboro Bridge to Astoria, along the East River parks and then across the Queensboro Bridge back to Manhattan. The walk will take about 6 hours; there are numerous drop off points once we reach Astoria, which will be about 7 miles and three hours into the walk. You will mostly be walking on flat, paved paths and sidewalks, but each of the three bridges has steep walkways, the Triboro Bridge has multiple stairways, the walkway across the Triboro Bridge is high and narrow. So you may not want to try it if you are wary of heights.
