You can take at least 13 free tours every day of the year, except the New Year Day, July 4th, and the Christmas Day. Tour | Flatiron District Walking Tour


A journey through the vibrant neighborhood, viewing some of the City’s most notable landmarks, including the New York Life Insurance Building, the MetLife Clock Tower, the Appellate Courthouse and the famous Flatiron Building. Tour guides: Miriam Berman, historian and the author of Madison Square: The Park and Its Celebrated Landmarks and New York in Words and Images, a book of New York postcards. Workshop | Community Rowing


No experience is necessary though rowing does require some physical dexterity. Community Rowing events are free sessions that include a basic introduction to rowing for first timers (safety orientation, rowing technique, and terminology) and of course plenty of actual rowing on the Hudson River. The rows take place in five-person wooden rowboats built on site. The rows last, depending on river conditions and crew experience, between one and three hours. Please arrive on-time as the crews will be assigned before 1PM. Bring extra water, a hat, and sunscreen as you will be rowing outdoors in the hot sun. Rowing is weather dependent and will be canceled for high winds, rain, or thunderstorms. All participants must sign a waiver and be able to climb a ladder. Every Sunday from June 10-October 21, 2018.

Catch-and-release fishing is a great way to get outdoors and discover nature just a few blocks from home. Experienced Rangers teach the ethics of fishing and the ecology of our waterways on every fishing program. You can try to hook a pumpkinseed sunfish, carp or chain pickerel. Whether you choose to grab a simple bamboo pole at a quiet lake or join more advanced saltwater programs, they have a program that fits your skill level. All equipment is provided; this program is recommended for ages 8 years and older. Participation is first-come, first-served.

Festival | The Hot Dog Bus hands out free hot dogs


Artist Erwin Wurm has transformed a vintage Volkswagen Microbus into an overstuffed food truck serving free dogs! It's an absurd, yet approachable art experience that will encourage visitors to rethink the fundamental definitions of sculpture. Wurm's choice of the hot dog hints at the gastronomic connections between the City’s most iconic street food and his Austrian homeland, while he considers the act of eating to be an additive sculptural process in its own right.

Dance Lesson | West African Dance Class


Come alone, with a friend, or with the whole family and take a West African Dance Class led by world-renowned master drummer Yahyah Kamate. Yahyah began his training in his native Cote D'Ivoire and has choreographed and danced for such renowned companies as Fotemoban Dance Company, Djensia Group, Camodgen of N’guatta Dolikro Dance Company of Cote d’Ivoire, and Affoubenou Sakassou Dance Company of Senegal. For the past 15 years, he has worked as lead dancer and choreographer for several companies in the United States, including Kulu Mele Dance Company and The Seventh Principle. The Queens-based Calpulli Mexican Dance Company’s returns for a performance featuring traditional Mexican music and dance. The company will perform excerpts from “Boda Mexicana (Mexican Wedding)," including dances from the Yucatán peninsula, the Andean-influenced music from Guerrero, and the Aztec suite “Mexican Tiawi,” which translates to "Mexicans onward." The event also features Alvin Ailey’s Revelations Celebration Community Workshop at 2:00 p.m. Alvin Ailey’s Revelations is the world’s most popular work of modern dance. Learn excerpts from this American classic led by master teacher Nasha Thomas or other former Ailey company members, with live music by an Ailey percussionist and selected props. Come listen to jazz under the trees and watch the sun set behind the clouds with Alex Nguyen & Friends. Since arriving in NYC, trumpeter Alex Nguyen has been establishing himself for his distinctive lyrical and melodic style. The Savannah, Georgia native has garnered praise for his independent projects, including the Jazz Conceptions Orchestra, for which he arranges much of the material. Alex has appeared with such groups as the Cannonball Adderley Legacy Band, the Curtis Fuller Quintet, and Celebration of Lionel Hampton; and one of his compositions “The First Year” was featured on NEA Jazz Master Kenny Barron’s album The Traveler.
