You can take at least 13 free tours every day of the year, except the New Year Day, July 4th, and the Christmas Day. Part 3 of this series on the definition of genocide, its historical origins, and instances of genocide in post-Holocaust era. What is a genocide, and how do we understand it in a post-Holocaust era? Join distinguished scholar in Holocaust and Genocide Studies Michael Berenbaum for an in-depth 3-part series where we will examine its historical origins, legal definitions, and instances of genocide in the post-Holocaust era.In this session we will explore the pioneering work of Raphael Lemkin, the Polish-Jewish lawyer who coined the term "genocide." In this session, examine genocides that have occurred since the Holocaust, including those in Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur. Participants will study the causes, characteristics, and consequences of these atrocities, exploring the roles of ideology, political power, and social dynamics in their occurrence. The session will also discuss the international community's responses to these genocides, including humanitarian interventions, legal prosecutions, and efforts at prevention and reconciliation.

A virtual seminar with urban historian Bradley Shaw on the life of businessman and philanthropist Jacob Schiff. Always donating at least 10% of his earnings to charity, Schiff's endowments gave life to the Henry Street Settlement, Hebrew Union College, the Jewish Theological Seminary, and the YMHA, among many other organizations. His philanthropy was not reserved for only Jewish causes. He also gave heavily to Tuskegee University, the NAACP, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Montefiore Hospital, the Bronx Zoo, and Barnard College. Schiff tirelessly fought all forms of antisemitism and racism.
