Concert | 3 Pop Rockers in Park - Outdoors

Snail Mail's Lindsey Jordan is a songwriter mature beyond her 24 years, pairing a bleeding heart with a penchant for pop hooks. She has a knack for turning bedroom confessionals into singalong screamers, from her earliest hits like "Thinning" to her breakout LP Lush. Her latest LP Valentine displays what she's capable of when backed by big-budget production values and a bevy of new experiences touring the world as the heir apparent to irreverent rock goddess Liz Phair. Co-headliner of the event is multi-hyphenate Tim Heidecker (of Tim & Eric fame), who, in addition to his comedy, acting, writing, directing, and hosting gigs, has put out six albums of tender and expertly crafted guitar music, balancing gentle melodies with his signature caustic wit. HIs latest LP High School is a concept album that explores truths about adulthood through the lens of his adolescence. In 2023, Brooklyn-based artist Fenne Lily released the gentle and gorgeous LP Big Picture, an achingly introspective exercise in seeking clarity in the uncertain; comfort in the uncomfortable.

Book Club | Pulitzer Prize Winner This Other Eden by Paul Harding

In 1792, formerly enslaved Benjamin Honey and his Irish wife, Patience, discover an island where they can make a life together. Over a century later, the Honeys’ descendants and a diverse group of neighbors are desperately poor, isolated, and often hungry, but nevertheless protected from the hostility awaiting them on the mainland. During the tumultuous summer of 1912, Matthew Diamond, a retired, idealistic but prejudiced schoolteacher-turned-missionary, disrupts the community’s fragile balance through his efforts to educate its children. His presence attracts the attention of authorities on the mainland who, under the influence of the eugenics-thinking popular among progressives of the day, decide to forcibly evacuate the island, institutionalize its residents, and develop the island as a vacation destination.

Gallery Talk | Speaking Up! Confronting Hate Speech: Curator's Talk (online)

Learn about the Museum’s newest exhibition, which underscores the power of words to lead to discrimination, persecution, and mass violence. Identity-based violence like genocide is rarely—if ever—a spontaneous event. The exhibition provides historical and current examples of the connection between words and mass atrocities, while empowering visitors with strategies to counter hate speech in their own communities. Members of the exhibition’s original curatorial team Leora Kahn and David J. Simon will be in conversation with Treva Walsh, Associate Curator at the Museum, about the process of curating the exhibition.

Soprano Emily Pogorelc and tenor Bekhzod Davronov--both in their Met debuts--complete the cast as Lisette and Prunier. This performance is from April 20, 2024.
