Concert | Pipes at One Concert

The mechanical-action pipe organ of the church was built in 1964 by the Schlicker Organ Company of Buffalo, New York, and re-built by the Andover Organ Company of Methuen, Massachusetts in 1981. It boasts the oldest pipe organ case in New York City, made of mahogany and dating from 1802, and contains 1,632 pipes. Following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center situated directly across the street from St. Paul’s, the organ was silenced, but has since been partially cleaned and made payable by Mann & Trupiano organ-builders from Brooklyn. The organ is featured weekly in live broadcasts on WWFM of “Bach at One” liturgical presentations by the Trinity Choir and Trinity Baroque Orchestra. This illustrated talk is filled with surprises that add texture and richness to life in the Big Apple. Wild peacocks, parrots, and raccoons rather than the Bronx Zoo; cricket, lawn bowling, surfboarding, and pistol shooting rather than the Yankees and the Mets; a Japanese pagoda-inspired house and a Frank Lloyd Wright house rather than a Brooklyn brownstone or the Empire State building; wineries, rolling ladder manufacturers, and fishing tackle businesses rather than the New York Stock Exchange; Key Lime Pies not seltzer; fragments of the Berlin Wall and Gaudi-like mosaic benches rather than the Guggenheim or the Met; a statue of Lenin rather than the Statue of Liberty.

Slide Lecture | Why We Buy, Why We Brand

An illustrated lecture by Debbie Millman. "Why We Buy, Why We Brand" is an entertaining sociological, scientific, and anthropological overview of why we purchase things and cultivate brands. What sets one brand apart from another? Is there a magic formula that turns a simple script logo into the international graphic icon Coca-Cola, or makes us ogle over the latest Apple product? Take a deep dive into the influence branding has on our everyday lives, from branding ourselves and the world around us, to the role branding plays in the products we buy and the way we live.
