Classical Music | Medieval music for singers and instruments


Lessons & Carols by candlelight with early music for voices and period instruments, along with ‘new’ more mediëval music. Readings in Middle English from John Wycliffe’s 14th century translation of the Bible. A reception of hypocras and sweetmeats follows. Early music generally comprises Medieval music (500–1400) and Renaissance music (1400–1600), but can also include Baroque music (1600–1760). In the later 20th century there was a resurgence of interest in the performance of music from the Medieval and Renaissance eras, and a number of instrumental consorts and choral ensembles specialising in Early music repertoire were formed. less
