Founded by Leonard Bernstein in 1984, the annual New Year's Eve Concert for Peace will take place this year with performances by the Cathedral Choir and Orchestra led by Director of Music Kent Tritle along with special guests. Harry Smith, host. Special guests Paul Winter, Judy Collins, Jamet Pittman, Jason Robert Brown, and David Briggs. Saxophonist, composer and bandleader Paul Winter is a seven-time Grammy Award-winner. He is recognized as one of the pioneers of the world music genre, and also for his genre of "earth music," which interweaves the voices of the greater symphony of the wild with instrumental voices from classical, jazz and world music traditions. Singer and songwriter Judy Collins has received four Grammy Award nominations for Best Folk Performance or Folk Recording, one for Best Folk Album and one for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. She won a Grammy Award for Best Folk Performance. Musical theatre composer, lyricist, and playwright Jason Robert Brown fuses pop-rock stylings with theatrical lyrics. He is the recipient of three Tony Awards for his work on Parade and The Bridges of Madison County. Choral conductor and organist Kent Tritle is a concert organist; he is as well an organist of the New York Philharmonic and the American Symphony Orchestra. Tritle was from 1996-2004 Music Director of the Emmy-nominated Dessoff Choirs, winners of the ASCAP Chorus America award for adventurous programming of contemporary music. They have appeared regularly in Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival, including the nationally telecast and Emmy-nominated Live from Lincoln Center performance of Mozart's Requiem in 2001.
