The Dybbuk was premiered on December 9, 1920 by the Vilna Trupe at the Eizeum theater in Warsaw. It's success catapulted that company onto the international stage. It has since been translated into 27 languages and performed worldwide. The play depicts the possession of a young woman by the malicious spirit - known as Dybbuk in Jewish folklore - of her dead beloved. An-ski (Shloyme Zaynvl Rapoport) Adapted by David Mandelbaum Directed by Jesse Freedman Performed in English with a liberal peppering of Yiddish.
