Caroles by Candel-leoht: a service of medieval carols and Middle English readings. About the event Immerse yourself in the sounds (and smells and tastes!) of medieval England in this unique Christmas carol event. The traditional Christmas readings are taken from the 14th century translation of the Bible by John Wycliffe (1320s - 1384) and read in authentic Middle English. Carols, mostly from the 14th century, performed by: David Dickey: countertenor and recorders; Christopher Preston Thompson: tenor and medieval harps; Thomas McCargar: baritone; Christa Patton: recorders, shawm, and medieval bagpipe. The service is followed by an out-door festive reception of hot wassail and sweet mince pies around the courtyard fire. Must be fully vaccinated and masked.
