Eliseu Silva presents the History of Fado and its culture with original compositions based on Portuguese music, where great musicians, popular music, and traditional instruments are brought to life by the virtuoso violinist. Eliseu Silva, PhD, is a onductor, solo violinist, recording artist, composer/arranger, and festival organizer/director. He was the artistic director of Guimaraes International Music Festival, has given many masterclasses in countries around the world, and is a prize winner of many national and international violin competitions. He is the resident conductor of the Fragoso Orchestra, Oporto Orchestra of Bonjoia and co-founder of the Lusitanae Ensemble. Fado music is a form of Portuguese singing that is often associated with pubs, cafes, and restaurants. This music genre officially originated in Portugal around the 1820s, though it is thought to have much earlier origins. Fado is known for how expressive and profoundly melancholic it is.
