Other | Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer at Political Memorabilia Show


Stringer has been selected to receive the 2nd Annual Ed Potter Memorial Award at the 23rd Annual Big Apple Ed Potter Chapter's APIC-New York City Political Collectors Show. The award is named after Mr. Ed Potter, who was a well-known collector of political memorabilia and for whom the chapter is named, and is given to elected officials who are involved in collecting and preserving political memorabilia and artifacts. Borough President Stringer has long been a collector of political campaign artifacts. In addition, he has used creative items in his campaigns. The award presentation will take place at 12 Noon. Over 100,000 political items, including buttons, posters, mugs, bandanas, watches and clothing will be on sale covering the presidencies of George Washington to Barack Obama. There will be a special exhibit of political memorabilia from the recent New York gubernatorial election, including a rare Peter Max poster of Governor Mario Cuomo. In addition, there will be a special exhibit of Barack Obama inaugural and presidential memorabilia including items from the White House Easter Egg Hunt.

Spanning 54 countries and 120 locations, all seen from the air, this film captures the Earth's most amazing landscapes, showcasing its incomparable beauty and acknowledging its vulnerability. Home is a compelling emotional reminder of what is at stake: the Earth, in all its beauty, and the people who live on it. The man behind the film is the French photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand, author of Earth from Above and founder and president of the Goodplanet Foundation. The start times are 11am, 1:50pm, 4:40pm, 7:30pm, and 10:20pm. Each screening will be followed by a chance to meet the director.

Miranda Cosgrove, actress, recording artist and Neutrogena Brand Ambassador, along with Ann Shoket, editor-in-chief of Seventeen will unveil the March issue of the magazine. Cosgrove will also kick off Seventeen’s Pretty Amazing contest – the search for the next real girl teen cover model. This is a wristbanded event. A limited number of wristbands will be distributed at opening (10am). A customer must purchase a copy of Seventeen magazine on that day to receive a wristband. Cosgrove will sign up to five (5) items purchased at the store per customer with a wristband. She will not be personalizing. She will only sign her name.

Director of Music and Organist Henderson will launch his recent solo organ CD with performances of works selected from the recording on the colorful Casavant organ. The program will include works by Bach, Handel, Willan, Howells, Barber, Mägi, and the U.S. premiere of a suite in five movements, Eine kleine Morgenmusik (2010), by Canadian composer Barrie Cabena. The CD, recorded last June on the Casavant organ at St. John’s Church in Elora, Ontario, will be released in Canada in the fall of 2010.
