Hike | West Harbor Walk

For approximately 19-20 miles (8-9 hours) at a moderate-brisk pace, follow the lesser known Western shore of New York Harbor through the cities of Jersey City and Bayonne; we will explore Liberty State Park and its historic rail terminal; pass the site of the 1916 Black Tom Explosion, follow boardwalks over docklands and through restored wetlands with many shorebirds; pass shipping cranes on the Newark Bay shore; cross the Bayonne Bridge; and pass through the former sailors' home at Snug Harbor, ending at the Staten Island Ferry terminal at St. George (for ferry service back to Manhattan). This improved West Harbor Walk will take you over several new boardwalks and promenades completed in 2009. As the walk parallels Hudson-Bergen Light Rail for the first 12 miles, walkers interested in joining us for part of the walk may take the train back to Hoboken Terminal at several points. You will stop briefly for lunch in Bayonne at noon at an intersection with several lunch option. In any weather.

Film | Japanese Cinema: Juzo Itami's Tampopo (1986)

A tall, dark cowboy-hatted stranger named Goro rides into town on a milk truck and enters the nearest noodle shop, run by Tampopo. Tampopo's sweet demeanor cannot change the fact that her food is inedible. The brash Goro resolves to take the shopowner under his wing, and together, they embark on a quest to discover the perfect noodle soup recipe. Described by Itami as a "ramen western" due to its similarity to Shane and the spaghetti western, this "gastronomic comedy of table manners" satirizes Japanese mores in a hilarious series of vignettes which also provide a catalogue of culinary delights. 115 min.

Staged Reading | Play Reading: Lauren Feldman's A People

A magical, lyrical journey into heritage, tradition, religion and humanity. Hilarious and terrifyingly honest, A People gathers a tight ensemble of ten performers, taking on a mass of old and new world personalities to create snippets of life the way we see it, the way we want it to be, and the way it is.
