Two years ago, the center launched The Literarian magazine, with the intention of showcasing a wide range of thought-provoking literary writing. They've published well-known literary figures alongside first-time authors, and run traditionally constructed, emotionally complex stories next to those that push the limits of subversion.
Tonight, they offer a sampling from three very different writers, along with a few libations.
Sigrid Nunez, whose wickedly delightful—and astute—myth “Betrayal” appears in the current issue, has published six novels, including A Feather on the Breath of God, The Last of Her Kind, and, most recently, Salvation City.
Terese Svoboda, whose formally transgressive, emotionally sucker-punching story “Kosciusco Bridge” appeared in the fall 2012 issue, is the author, most recently, of the novel is Bohemian Girl.
Rumaan Alam, whose delicate, heartbreaking story about the illusion of safety, “A Certainty,” will appear in the spring, 2013 issue, has also had work in Washington Square Review, the Gettysburg Review, Crazyhorse, American Short Fiction, and Avery Anthology.
