Opening Reception | New Painting and Sculpture by Jeffrey Gibson

Jeffrey Gibson’s paintings and sculptures are inspired by the traditional craft and modern arts of Native American cultures. His sense of pride and desire to reclaim ownership of these histories counter the potentially negative connotations of craft that has been placed onto Native American Art, situating his work within the pantheon of abstract modernism. Jeffrey Gibson attended The Art Institute of Chicago (BFA) and The Royal College of Art, UK (MA). He is half-Cherokee, a member of The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, and was raised in the United States, Germany, and South Korea. Gibson's artworks are in the permanent collections of many major art museums, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian, and the Denver Art Museum. In 2013 he had one-person exhibitions at The ICA Boston, National Academy Museum NYC, and the Rollins Museum. In 2014 he will have a one-person exhibit at The Denver Museum of Art.

Theater | a kind shot: all of us have vulnerabilities; no matter how strong we look...

A single storyteller presenting a program for adults. I've been 6 foot one since the 6th grade. I am female. Using basketball as a metaphor for life, (I played pro in France), I tell a true story and share that all of us have vulnerabilities. No matter how strong we look or who we are, we must coach each other. We must be kind to each other. Written and performed by Terri Mateer*. (*Appearing Courtesy of Actors Equity Association) *Running Time - 50 Minutes (with a half hour or so mingle time after) There is a small bar, long set of stairs and no wheelchair access. REVIEWS: "As we told you we see a lot of stuff in small theaters, basements, garages etc. Your performance, we felt, was the reason we keep going. As they say "you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find the prince". Last night we found a prince." "It's nearly perfect." "There was something for everyone."
