Conference | After the Reveal: Open Questions on Closed Systems

The study of media and communication has long been preoccupied with revelation — the bringing to light of some overlooked, hidden or suppressed knowledge and the promise of an authoritative or transforming truth. Recently, we have seen this interest in the examinations of transparency across government and industry, explications of complex technologies and infrastructures, and appraisals of media representation and visibility. This conference will seek to critique and explore the many conceptual permutations of “the reveal” and their potentials, demands, implications and limitations. In doing so, they hope to move beyond the recovery and uncovering of knowledge or the adjudication of truths that may be unveiled.

Tour | Greenwich Village Neighborhood Tour

Greenwich Village is among Manhattan's most desirable and expensive residential neighborhoods. It's history, however, betrays it's monied status. The Village, with it's quiet, shaded streets, lined with lovely brick and brownstone townhouses, was once the incubating ground of artistic, social and political movements that have helped shape US history. From the Beats to the Folk Movement, from workers rights to gay rights, the Village has often been the center of it all.

Representing dramatically different cultural contexts, generations and formal approaches to the making of art, all three artists are nevertheless united by a preoccupation with the spatial possibilities of impasto and the psychological charge that profoundly heavy, troweled, shoveled and carved pigment can generate.

Performance | Finbin Teo Theatre Company presents The Blind Seal

While travelling through the west of Ireland, William Hamilton Maxwell documented the stories and experiences in his book Wild Sports of the West, published in 1832. It was one of these stories that inspired Dara McGee to put together a visual show recounting the fate of a domesticated seal at the home of a local fisherman at Renvyle, Connemara. This is reportedly a true story about the seal, his owner and all the people that were involved. Music, storytelling and live art are used in this show to tell the tragic story of The Blind Seal. Darach Ó Tuairisg narrate the story with Dara McGee painting live on stage with music accompaniment.
