Relaxed walking, child friendly/stroller friendly, level ground, 3-4 hours. Walk around Battery Park, view Indian Museum statues, beautiful historical building, the “Bull” and Trinity Church and cemetery. Bring lunch, water, binoculars or a camera with optical zoom lens. Wear warm clothing and walking shoes. Heavy snow or rain cancels.

Hike | Connetquot River Plus Great South Bay Hike


6 or 12 miles. Flat, brisk pace. Not suitable for beginners. A winter hike to an interesting Connetquot Park Preserve. See ponds, river, fish hatchery and wildlife. Then on to an awesome view of the Great South Bay in Heckscher State Park. Bring water, lunch and hot beverage, wear hiking boots. Rain, snow or icy conditions cancel.

Symposium | Saarinen@100


This program celebrating the 100th anniversary of Eero Saarinen's birth will explore the architect's contemporary relevance by discussing his legacy and relationship to the media. This session is a discussion examining one of the truly contemporary aspects of Saarinen's career: his unabashed engagement with the media. Journalist Cathleen McGuigan will speak on the life and career of Aline Saarinen, Eero Saarinen's wife and public relations expert; she will be joined by scholar Sandy Isenstadt, who will explore the theatricality of Saarinen's work. Exhibition curator Donald Albrecht will moderate the discussion.
