Lanner Quartet was formed in summer 2012. The founding artists, all members of Budapest Festival Orchestra, had a desire to get in closer touch with the audience, so that musicians and listeners would not feel separated and on two sides of a divide between the public and the music. As a result, Lanner Quartet proposes regularly special events where music and an opportunity to discuss and sample the culinary arts go hand in hand. During the events, the emphasis is always on interaction and contact with the audience.
The ensemble specializes in pieces written for two violins, a viola and a double bass, drawing on the body of work mainly by Viennese composers of the 19th century. Members also produce transcriptions of brilliant pieces by Schubert, Verdi and Wagner, written originally for piano or for other ensemble types, broadening the repertoire.
