Vox Aquarum presents A Life in Love: Renaissance Music for Voices and Lute with works by John Dowland and his contemporaries. Featuring:
Brian Goff, bass
Chelsea Laggan, alto
Matthew Koraus, tenor
Katrina Montagna, soprano
Christopher Morrongiello, lute
Commonly performed as solos, most of John Dowland’s lute songs were originally published in four voice parts. Singing them with four voices both clarifies and strengthens the mature counterpoint of the lute accompaniment. In expressing love’s joys, tribulations and sorrows, these songs represent a pinnacle of Renaissance musical, poetic expression.
