Two of the year’s most inventive thrillers, Shirley and The Invisible Man, have one thing in common: actress Elisabeth Moss. As renown horror writer Shirley Jackson, she twists the psychological screws on a young couple, while in the latter film, she’s on the receiving end of abuse from a man who may – or may not – be there. “The idea of seeing something that nobody else can see, that’s my bread and butter,” Moss notes of her Invisible adversary. “It’s what I do every day for a living.” Equally busy on television, the performer brought brutal authenticity to her work on Mad Men, Top of the Lake and her role as Offred in The Handmaid’s Tale, for which she won Emmy and Golden Globe awards for Best Actress in a Drama Series. Moss has also become a force behind the camera, producing films including Shirley and Alex Ross Perry’s Her Smell, and executive producing The Handmaid’s Tale.
