Lecture | The Aesthetics of Hanok and the Depth of Consideration

Jinbae Park speaks on Hanok, a traditionally built Korean house constructed for centuries by skilled craftsmen using refined and natural techniques. Although many Hanok were demolished to make way for South Korea’s rapid industrialization, some survived, and their popularity is resurging today. The art of building Hanok adheres to principles of harmony with nature, often incorporating soil, unprocessed timber, and stones while using wooden pegs, not nails. Professor Park will point out eco-friendly architectural design and construction in relation to Hanok and highlight symbolic meanings of decoration of Hanok.
