You can take at least 13 free tours every day of the year, except the New Year Day, July 4th, and the Christmas Day. A lunch hour of jazz on the plaza. Myron Walden was born in Miami, Florida on October 18, 1972, moving with his mother to the Bronx at age 12, and grew up listening to a wide range of rhythm and blues, blues, soul, and gospel music. Shortly after the move, as Myron's uncle was listening to a recording of Charlie Parker's 'One Night in Washington,' young Myron was profoundly moved by the music and, hearing the uncle exclaim "Tell it Bird!," he immediately knew that music was his calling and that music would be his voice.

The filmmaker shares a poetic and personal reflection of his journey south from California to Mexico in search of the “last” traditional Kumeyaay singer. The work was inspired by James Welch’s poem, “Gesture Down to Guatemala.” Good Looking (2007, 21 min.) A struggling young actor finally lands a role. Unfortunately, it’s as a bimbo in a zombie film. Now she must decide: take the part or maintain her self-respect? My Métis Grandmother (2008, 30 min.) All her life, Cecile St. Amant concealed her Métis heritage. Now, her granddaughter, the filmmaker, lovingly begins to lead her to a new way of thinking. Female Rain (2006, 2 min.) In a piece based on a poem by Navajo writer Laura Tohe, the filmmaker expresses her love of the Navajo language. Writing the Land (2007, 8 min.) A celebration of Musqueam elder Larry Grant’s experience of rediscovering the Hunkamenum language and cultural traditions in the cityscape of Vancouver, located on ancestral Musqueam lands.

Gallery Talk | Artist Zwelethu Mthethwa discusses the exhibition Inner Views


The first New York museum exhibition of South African photographer Zwelethu Mthethwa (b. 1960, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa) brings together three compelling series: "Interiors" and "Empty Beds" document the domestic lives of migrant workers in and near Johannesburg, South Africa, while photographs in "Common Ground" focus on shared experiences of natural disaster in urban areas, featuring houses in post-Hurricane-Katrina New Orleans, Louisiana and on the outskirts of Cape Town, South Africa, after wildfires. Mthethwa will be in conversation with Naomi Beckwith about the work in Inner Views in a special public program.

Concert | Bill Sims, Jr., Blues Piano


Sims started playing piano at the age of four and at fourteen turned professional when he joined the Jacksonian Blues, and later playing with MUDDY WATERS, HOWLIN’ WOLF, FREDDIE KING, THE O’JAYS, JERRY BUTLER and many others. In 1971, Bill joined THE FOUR MINTS, a doo-wop rhythm and blues group with chart-topping tunes including You're My Desire and Row My Boat, and opening for mega-bands of the 1970s such as GLADYS KNIGHT and EARTH, WIND AND FIRE. Sims later founded THE LAMORIANS, an avant-grade jazz band that relied heavily on traditional African drumming.

Comics chameleon R. Sikoryak inventively adapts canonical Western literature using the visual styles and characters of historical American comic books and comic strips. Among his many works produced over the past twenty years, Sikoryak has adapted Kafka's The Metamorphosis in the style of Charles Schulz's Peanuts, Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights in the style of Tales From the Crypt, and the Book of Genesis in the style of Chic Young's Blondie.
