Dance Performance | Ivy Baldwin Dance Company's Here Rests Peggy

Here Rests Peggy is a new quartet for performers Lawrence Cassella, Eleanor Smith, Katie Workum, and Ivy Baldwin. Directly inspired by Baldwin’s research fellowship in Bogliasco, Italy, Here Rests Peggy is a dance influenced by everything from the dramatic and stylized world of German Expressionist film, to the outrageous life and art collection of Peggy Guggenheim. Surrounded by an installation of paintings by visual artist Anna Schuleit, the performers appear, reappear, and disappear, both physically and emotionally, traveling in and out of love, anguish, rage, and selfish couplings.

A masterly study of leisure, consumer culture, and class in America. Wiseman’s wanderings through the showrooms and corporate offices of Neiman-Marcus at Christmastime are both hilarious and depressing. Concert | Electronic Music: Caribou / Phantogram

Swim is Caribou’s masterpiece, an album that absorbs club culture sounds weaved within subtle pop frameworks, and the record Dan Snaith has wanted to bring to fruition for as long as he has been making music. Snaith, a Canadian from small-town Ontario now based in England, has been a leading figure in electronic music over the past decade. Phantogram’s (pictured) music sounds like it’s made by a band from the city. Electronic loops, hip-hop beats, shoegaze, soul, pop — each finds its way into their songs. Unexpectedly, the band doesn’t live and work in a major urban center, but rather calls the town of Saratoga Springs, NY (population 26,186) home. Opening is The Chain Gang of 1974.
