Screening | Extraordinary Moves: Judy Dennis' The Dancer Films

Extraordinary Moves is an 8-day series. Today: New York Premiere! The Dancer Films is a collection of very short films based on Jules Feiffer's beloved cartoon character, the modern Dancer. Brought to life by Merce Cunningham Dance Company dancer Andrea Weber, the Dancer is an icon to optimism and earnestness as she dances to celebrate a cycle of seasonal, emotional and political milestones. Dance Performance | Choreographer Deganit Shemy presents an open rehearsal of 2 Kilos of Sea

2 Kilos of Sea is a dance originally created while working in a church courtyard, a space that juxtaposes layers of religious and social meaning and is a metaphor with a physical layout and design that creates concrete spatial limitations and hard borders. During their residency at Governors Island, Deganit Shemy & Company have been working on a new theatrical version of 2 Kilos Of Sea with a new set design for the stage.

Concert | Beach Party featuring Xray Eyeballs with Frankie and the Outs

Xray Eyeballs (pictured) is the brainchild of O.J. San Felipe, a fixture in the underground Brooklyn punk, noise, and indie scene, who has played in numerous bands including Golden Triangle (Mexican Summer, Hardly Art). While Golden Triangle is known as an all around party band that bashes out garage pop tunes, O.J. had something else in mind for Xray Eyeballs. As a founding member of Vivian Girls – she wrote the biggest hit “Where Do You Run To” off the band’s 2008 debut – and a drummer/vocalist in both Crystal Stilts and Dum Dum Girls, Frankie Rose has been an integral part of Brooklyn’s music scene for years. Signed to Slumberland Records, she now fronts Frankie and the Outs. The band makes spooked melancholic dream pop with echoes of Phil Spector’s Wall of Sound, The Aislers Set, and Black Tambourine. In 2010, Stereogum dubbed the Brooklyn group as a “Band to Watch,” along with the likes of Best Coast, Cults, Givers, Dom, and Wild Nothing, among others.

Hospitality are currently putting the finishing touches on their long-awaited debut LP.
