Music lovers are invited to bring lunch, join friends and relax to enjoy a taste of New York’s eclectic “underground” music scene.
One of New York City's premier young ensembles, The Hopkins Entertainment Group was founded on the beliefs and principals of its members to bring classical music to as many people as possible. The group believes that classical music can be fun, entertaining, and appealing to a diverse audience. Founded in 2009 at The Juilliard School, the group is dedicated to performing pieces from the early repertoire through commissioned works by living composers. Both broadening the horizon of classical music and incorporating works of different genres in performances are at the forefront of the group's mission.
Founded in 2005 the Opera Collective was formed to create performance opportunities and a support structure for singers and pianists to share ideas and constructive criticism. Their mission is to make opera accessible and affordable to the general public by presenting engaging evenings of vocal music, including opera, art song, operetta and musical theater. The Collective consists of 10 core members, with rotating singers and pianists on their roster, who individually have performed with New York City Opera, Opera Colorado, Sarasota Opera, the Caramoor Festival, Connecticut Opera, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Dicapo Opera, Opera Hispànica and New Jersey Verismo Opera, and in venues such as Carnegie Hall, London's Wigmore Hall and Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center. As active members of the MUNY program, they do educational outreach in NY and CT teaching students about opera and the vocal arts. Opera Collective has also been featured several times on NHK's documentary series "New York Streets."
