Home to some of the city's most iconic architecture, from Gothic to Post-Modern and from Beaux-Arts to Art Deco (lots of Art Deco). It's not difficult to understand why. Tour | Williamsburg Street Art Tour

Street art is visual art created in public locations, usually unsanctioned artwork executed outside of the context of traditional art venues. The term gained popularity during the graffiti art boom of the early 1980s and continues to be applied to subsequent incarnations. Stencil graffiti, wheat pasted poster art or sticker art, and street installation or sculpture are common forms of modern street art. Video projection, yarn bombing and Lock Onsculpture became popularized at the turn of the 21st century. The terms "urban art," "guerrilla art," "post-graffiti" and "neo-graffiti" are also sometimes used when referring to artwork created in these contexts.

Now growing for its third year, the organic garden illustrates a foray into urban agriculture, producing vegetables and herbs that are used throughout the hotel’s food and beverage program. The 1,344-square foot garden is situated 384 feet above Manhattan. With eleven planted beds and four robust barrels planted throughout summer and fall, vegetables include arugula, mesclun lettuces, heirloom tomatoes, yellow squash, zucchini, peppers and fall squashes. Herbs include basil, mint, thyme, oregano and cilantro. The garden utilizes only organic plants, soil, fertilizer and insect deterrents, including eco-friendly ladybugs. Led by Executive Chef and Chief Gardener Brian Wieler, the tours offer insider access to the private garden, which has breathtaking views of Manhattan and is closed to the public. Concert | The Musical World of Harmonium Mountain

In this mesmerizing world premiere, the artist CLIFFORD ROSS teams up with NYC-based chamber ensemble ORCHESTRA OF ST LUKE’S to bring you a massive, site-specific, multi-screen installation with a varied and transportive suite of live music. Ross, whose work evokes “profound vitality and pleasure,” (Art in America) has gained notoriety for his ambitious, large-scale endeavors and technological innovations. While developing the piece Harmonium Mountain, he worked with animators to enhance a single high resolution photograph of a landscape with 3D computer-generated elements. St. Luke’s is an ensemble marked by “roving curiosity” and “stylistic flexibility,” (NY Times) and a linchpin of the New York chamber music scene. Equally at home interpreting newly commissioned works and the central European canon, they are fast-rising musical omnivores with a knack for unconventional programming. To accompany Harmonium Mountain, Ross and St. Luke’s have devised a program featuring works by Antonio Vivaldi, Steve Reich, John Adams, Bryce Dessner, and Wojciech Kilar, including excerpts from Vivaldi’s celebrated “The Four Seasons” and Adams’ “Shaker Loops.” The evening will feature ALAN PIERSON, Conductor; ABIGAIL FISCHER, Mezzo-Soprano; and KRISTA BENNION FENNEY, Violin. To begin the evening, cellist JEFFREY ZEIGLER of the Kronos Quartet teams up with percussionist ANDY AKIHO and poet ROGER BONAIR-AGARD for a program of Philip Glass, John Zorn, and Paola Prestini.

Performance | Performance Art: Richard Garet / Bonnie Jones

Richard Garet is a multimedia artist living and working in NY. His work focuses on modified environments, installations, sound art, audiovisual screenings, and sound and audiovisual performance. Garet constructs intimate situations that draw attention to the processes of perception, which activate sensorial, physical, and psychological phenomena that reflect on the nature and experience of time. Bonnie Jones is a Korean-American writer, improvising musician, and performer working primarily with electronic music and text. Born in 1977 in South Korea she was raised on a dairy farm in New Jersey, and currently resides in Baltimore, Maryland. Bonnie creates improvised and composed text-sound performances that explore the fluidity and function of electronic noise (field recordings, circuit bending) and text (poetry, found, spoken, visual). She is interested in how people perceive, “read” and interact with these sounds and texts given our current technological moment. Bonnie has received commissions from the London ICA and has presented her work in the US, Europe, and Asia and collaborates frequently with writers and musicians.

Theater | Shakespeare in the Parking Lot: Macbeth

The Drilling Company's Shakespeare in the Parking Lot became a treasured urban tradition in two decades of productions. The concept of free Shakespeare in a parking lot, presented with a "poor theater" aesthetic, is now widely imitated around the US and around the world, with productions as far away as New Zealand. Set in Scotland, Macbeth dramatizes the corrosive psychological and political effects produced when evil is chosen as a way to fulfill the ambition for power.
