Tour | Save Our Eagle Scaffold Tours

The iconic Eagle sculpture is both an artifact from our nation’s founding and a work of art. Sitting atop Fort Jay, the Eagle was constructed in 1796 and adorns the oldest standing structure on Governors Island. Two centuries of water, ice and pollution as well as Superstorm Sandy have significantly damaged the Eagle and restoration work has been ongoing for over 100 years. Climb the scaffolding with National Park Service Rangers and preservation crew to experience the eagle up close. A park ranger will assist with going up and down the scaffolding as well as be there to answer any questions you may have. Space is limited. Children must be over 48” and accompanied by an adult. No high-heels or sandals allowed – closed-toed shoes only. Tour times: 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 12:30 pm, 1:30 pm, 3:30 pm, 4:30 pm.

Play | Hudson Warehouse presents Aristophanes' Lysistrata

Originally performed in classical Athens in 411 BC, Aristophanes' Lysistrata is a comic account of one woman's extraordinary mission to end the Peloponnesian War. Lysistrata persuades the women of Greece to withhold sexual privileges from their husbands and lovers as a means of forcing the men to negotiate peace—a strategy, however, that inflames the battle between the sexes. The play is notable for being an early exposé of sexual relations in a male-dominated society. This outdoor production, subtitled "Let's Make America Great Again," is adapted and directed by Susane Lee. June 30-July 24, Thursday through Sunday nights.
