Workshop | Deep Yoga and Journaling
Sharyn Hahn lead you through some warm-up poses and a vinyasa flow as well as several short meditations, creative visualization, and intention-setting writing or sketching activities. You will leave feeling more flexible, relaxed, energized, with a mantra that you can carry with you throughout the week. Please bring a yoga mat if you have one, and they do have some if you need to borrow one for the class. Also bring a journal and something to write with. You will be writing a few times during the class, and if you prefer to sketch or want to do both, that is fine. Wear comfortable clothing, and feel free to bring a warm or cool drink to keep you hydrated (with a secure lid). All levels are welcome. If you have never done yoga you will be able to participate as well.

Tour | Flatiron District Walking Tour
A journey through the vibrant neighborhood, viewing some of the City’s most notable landmarks, including the New York Life Insurance Building, the MetLife Clock Tower, the Appellate Courthouse and the famous Flatiron Building. Tour guides: Miriam Berman, historian and the author of Madison Square: The Park and Its Celebrated Landmarks and New York in Words and Images, a book of New York postcards. Fred Cookinham, historian, author of The Age of Rand: Imagining an Objectivist Future World. Mike Kaback, a native New Yorker, has an unquenchable enthusiasm for everything about this city. Workshop | Community Rowing
No experience is necessary though rowing does require some physical dexterity. Community Rowing events are free sessions that include a basic introduction to rowing for first timers (safety orientation, rowing technique, and terminology) and of course plenty of actual rowing on the Hudson River. The rows take place in five-person wooden rowboats built on site. The rows last, depending on river conditions and crew experience, between one and three hours. Please arrive on-time as the crews will be assigned before 1PM. Bring extra water, a hat, and sunscreen as you will be rowing outdoors in the hot sun. Rowing is weather dependent and will be canceled for high winds, rain, or thunderstorms. All participants must sign a waiver and be able to climb a ladder. Every Sunday from June 10-October 21, 2018.

Tour | Environmental Justice in Gowanus Tour
Duration: 1.5 hours. Distance: 1 mile. Gowanus is an intensely contaminated community that is simultaneously undergoing multiple processes of environmental remediation and gentrification. The tour will explore these dynamics and the challenges and opportunities posed by the Gowanus Canal Superfund Clean Up, the rapid disappearance of commercial establishments and services that are affordable to low and moderate-income households and the recently announced housing authority plan to build market-rate apartments at Wyckoff Gardens. You will also learn about the Turning the Tide initiative, a multi-neighborhood effort that focuses on building social and environmental resiliency in five Brooklyn public housing developments in the face of climate change. Tour | Gentrification in Williamsburg Tour
This two-hour tour of Williamsburg highlights two main themes: Gentrification and Environmental Justice. Williamsburg offers an extreme example of both of these broader themes, and thus makes a very interesting case-study neighborhood in which to delve into these issues. The roots of gentrification and the detailed history of the cause of such rapid change will be covered in depth. This tour gives participants detailed information that will enable them to understand the topic of gentrification, why it is happening, its history, who benefits, and what is driving it. Artist Erwin Wurm has transformed a vintage Volkswagen Microbus into an overstuffed food truck serving free dogs! It's an absurd, yet approachable art experience that will encourage visitors to rethink the fundamental definitions of sculpture. Wurm's choice of the hot dog hints at the gastronomic connections between the City’s most iconic street food and his Austrian homeland, while he considers the act of eating to be an additive sculptural process in its own right.

Come alone, with a friend, or with the whole family and take a West African Dance Class led by world-renowned master drummer Yahyah Kamate. Yahyah began his training in his native Cote D'Ivoire and has choreographed and danced for such renowned companies as Fotemoban Dance Company, Djensia Group, Camodgen of N’guatta Dolikro Dance Company of Cote d’Ivoire, and Affoubenou Sakassou Dance Company of Senegal. For the past 15 years, he has worked as lead dancer and choreographer for several companies in the United States, including Kulu Mele Dance Company and The Seventh Principle. One of New Orleans’ long-running musical institutions, Rebirth Brass Band makes music for everyone. As said by The New York Times: “[Rebirth] is a working model of the New Orleans musical ethos: as long as everybody knows what they’re doing, anyone can cut loose.” The entire family will find something to groove along to during their performance at Family Day, where the band will be joined by Crescent City mainstay and the head of the Golden Eagle Mardi Gras Indian tribe, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux. Lower Manhattan is the foundation of western society in New York. Yet, the vast majority of New York history is non-western. Start the tour with an overview of Indigenous history in NYC. Then move on to walk through slave history of New York, checking out a former slave market, the burial ground, and a stop on the underground railroad. In fair Verona, the long-standing feud between families Montague and Capulet cause tragic results for their respective children, Romeo and Juliet. After meeting at a masked ball, Romeo and Juliet fall in love, only to discover the surname of their beloved. Revenge, love, and a secret marriage force the lovers to take drastic measures. In the end, both families learn the perils of needless violence. This summer will bring to life one of Shakespeare's most well known tragedies in a dynamic adaptationt. They will transform the park into Verona, with six actors playing all the roles in this fast-paced tour de force production. July 2-15, excluding Thursdays

Play | Sophocles's Antigone: Modern Re-Imagining of the Classic Greek Drama
Set in the city of Thebes in a dystopian future, the struggle for power, glory and the claim to the city shatters the bonds of brotherhood, leaving two men lifeless. The new king proclaims one brother a hero and the other a usurper, leaving his limp body lying in the street as an example to those who dare act against the state. The citizens of the city avert their eyes due to fear, turning instead to their new leader who vows to restore order to the war torn city. But when the sister of the slain young brothers protests the edict, she breaks faith with everything she has ever known in order to set things right at any cost. Calling on the cultural landscape of African-American traditions, while adhering to the Greek tragic form; this fresh reimagining of the classic story will captivate, stun and inspire audiences from all backgrounds. The Classical Theatre of Harlem's production is inspired by the Paul Roche adaptation which accomplishes a fidelity to the original while giving CTH the flexibility to showcase ancient ideas that have taken center stage in the current climate: order, law, justice and marginalized voices confronting power and patriarchy.
