Led by Karina Romero, this program is designed to introduce you to the basic steps of Argentine Tango. Originated in Argentina, Tango is danced around the world by people of all sizes and ages. It is said that if you can walk, then you can tango. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced Tango aficionado, all are welcome to join this program. Requirements to participate: You must register for each individual session you wish to attend. Comfortable clothing and footwear should be worn. Must arrive 15 minutes early to the class. Participants must bring a release form filled out and signed, available on the registration page. About the Instructor Karina Romero is a profesional Tango dancer and instructor. Originally from Argentina, Karina arrived in New York City in 2000 as an ambassador of Argentine Tango. She has studied with the most influential Tango teachers in the world, performed in many Tango shows and festivals, coordinated countless Tango shows, and taught at renowned schools and cultural centers throughout New York City. Currently she is the Executive Director of New Generation Dance Company, hosts La Romería milonga in Times Square, and teaches Tango every Friday at the Argentine Consulate in NYC.

George Washington struggles to define his presidency; James Madison presents the Bill of Rights; Muscogee (Creek) Chief Alexander McGillivray maneuvers to preserve his nation's land by signing the first international treaty with the United States; and Ona Judge, a woman enslaved by Martha Washington, sees through the Quaker petitions to end the slave trade.

Jazz | Dynamic Jazz Organ Trio -- Outdoors
Hot Hand Organ Trio is a dynamic and soulful take on the timeless “organ trio” format made famous by artists like Jimmy Smith and Dr. Lonnie Smith. Hot Hand Band is a prominent brass band on the NYC music scene, and in 2020 during the pandemic, trombonist Kevin Moehringer and drummer Kevin Raczka felt a collective desire to explore a smaller format for other performance opportunities, and to expand their musical horizons. They teamed up with long time collaborator Benjamin Hoffmann on keyboards to form the Hot Hand Organ Trio. They’ve been making music together regularly ever since, with several residencies and other performances. They bring their unique sound to timeless classics and newer music, leaving audiences with a memorable and soulful listening experience.

Lecture | The Tsenerene: The Most Popular Yiddish Book in History (online)
Arguably the most popular book in the history of Yiddish literature, the Tsenerene has been reprinted, both in Yiddish and in translation, 273 times since its appearance in the early seventeenth century. Arranged according to the weekly Torah portion, the book employs fragments of biblical verses in Hebrew to open sections of Yiddish text that may include direct translations, midrashic stories, commentaries, and - less often - interpretations original to the author, Yankev ben Yitskhok Ashkenazi of Janow. In this talk about the Tsenerene, Dr. Avi Blitz will show how the work's anthological style accommodates curious combinations of commentary and folklore and he will discuss what the book teaches us about the folk beliefs of early modern Ashkenazi society. Using different editions of the work, he will talk about textual variances and diverse paratextual elements that hint at the various ways the book was read throughout its 400-year history. Finally, he will discuss the idea of the book as a "women's Bible." Avi Blitz is a graduate of Oxford University and holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from Indiana University.

At the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu, dramatized by the popular film Black Hawk Down, the majority of soldiers who died were killed instantly or bled to death before they could reach an operating table. This tragedy reinforced the need for a revolutionary treatment that could transform trauma medicine. So, when Frank Hursey and Bart Gullong--who had no medical or military experience--discovered that a cheap, crushed rock called zeolite had blood-clotting properties, they brought it to the military's attention. The Marines and the Navy adopted the resulting product, QuikClot, immediately. The Army, however, resisted. It had two products of its own being developed to prevent excessive bleeds, one of which had already cost tens of millions of dollars. The other, "Factor Seven," had a more dangerous complication: its side effects could be deadly.
