Conference | National Domestic Workers Alliance Conference

"Women and Work: Building Solidarity with America's Vulnerable Workers" - Bringing together domestic workers from across the country to develop a national agenda, and to discuss how best to educate the public and strategize to achieve fair labor standards for domestic workers, including a living wage, basic benefits, and health care. A largely invisible but supremely vital segment of the economy, domestic workers care for children and the elderly and perform domestic and housekeeping work, often making less than minimum wage and working long hours without paid sick days, vacation time, or other basic protections that most other workers in the U.S. enjoy, all the while making it possible for their employers to balance work and family. Includes a video presentation of women leaders across the country who are raising their voices to support the work being done on behalf of domestic workers in this country. There will be over 100 domestic worker organizers in attendance, along with feminist scholars, activists, legislators, and other allies.

Staged Reading | OUT LOUD: MARGIE AND JOSEPHINE

Written by: Carly Mensch Directed by: Jason Eagan Meet Josephine, the wife of a lowly dressmaker on New York's Lower East Side, circa 1890. Meet Margie, a fledgling short story writer who has just moved to New York, circa now. When Margie takes a job playing Josephine at the local heritage museum, past pervades present in this weird and comic tale of new beginnings and epic. OUT LOUD is a play-reading series dedicated to supporting new work from emerging playwrights. OUT LOUD supports the playwright's process by selecting leading directors and actors to work on each reading; and meeting with each writer before and after the reading to offer feedback and discuss script development. Each reading proves to be an essential step for playwrights in developing new work.
