Theater | Euripides' The Trojan Women: Timeless Greek Tragedy

The Trojan Women is the third tragedy of a trilogy of dealing with the Trojan War by the Greek playwright Euripides. Produced during the Peloponnesian War, it is often considered a commentary on the capture of the Aegean island of Melos and the subsequent subjugation of its populace by the Athenians earlier in 415 BC, the same year the play premiered. The Trojan women of the play are the same that appear in the final chapter of The Iliad, lamenting over the loss of Hector in this outdoor theater performance. Directed by Nicholas Martin-Smith.

The closing night film of The 8th Annual Cine Fest Petrobras Brasil presents this film. Is it possible to tell a story of a nation through its architecture? It‘s been said that the most important aspect of a building is the legacy that it represents for the society that built it. Therefore the work of Oscar Niemeyer, and his generation, is undoubtedly the best Brazil has ever produced, architecture with a soul of its own inspired in the country‘s geography and that influenced architects worldwide. Followed by performances by Os Paralamas do Sucesso, a Brazilian rock band, and Brazilian guitarist, singer and songwriter Maria Gadu.
