You can take at least 13 free tours every day of the year, except the New Year Day, July 4th, and the Christmas Day. Join the efforts to help care for the more than 400 acres of water in the park's Estuarine Sanctuary. The Clean Sanctuary Campaign has been created to remove debris from the river, as floatables and flotsam arrive daily with the tide. They will provide skimmers, telescoping hook poles, trash bags and gloves. You must be 18 years of age. Sturdy footwear with deep treads, and long pants are required. Dress for weather.

Performance | Performance Art: Rafael Sanchez's The Limit as the Body Approaches Zero


Rafael Sanchez, winner of the 2008 Ida Applebroog Award, will present a series of new performance pieces and documentation from the past ten years of his work in the ground floor project space. Sanchez'’s performances often bridge the spectacle of street life with the meditative interiority of private rituals. During this exhibition, the artist will stage performances that provoke questions about issues as diverse as masculinity, sexuality, gentrification, and bodily limits.

That event, the very first New York City Pride Rally, took place in Washington Square Park and was followed by a candlelight vigil in Sheridan Square. Now in its 42nd year, the Heritage of Pride Rally continues that tradition providing the City's LGBT Community with a great launch into Pride Week. This year‘s rally will include performances by Me‘Shell Ndegéocello, Martha Wash, The Gay Men‘s Chorus, Vickie Shaw, and Billie Myers, hosted by writer and comic Bruce Vilanch.

Theater | Euripides' The Trojan Women: Timeless Greek Tragedy


The Trojan Women is the third tragedy of a trilogy of dealing with the Trojan War by the Greek playwright Euripides. Produced during the Peloponnesian War, it is often considered a commentary on the capture of the Aegean island of Melos and the subsequent subjugation of its populace by the Athenians earlier in 415 BC, the same year the play premiered. The Trojan women of the play are the same that appear in the final chapter of The Iliad, lamenting over the loss of Hector in this outdoor theater performance. Directed by Nicholas Martin-Smith.
