This work articulates the physical movement of pedestrians and the layered architectural history of El Barrio. In a response to El Barrio's cultural traditions, political history and social environment, Zachary will be performing a sequence of body movements, exercises, gestures, and poses derived from rote daily activities that seem inconsequential, but when isolated and repeated, often reveal a hidden narrative. Each gesture will be repeated for different lengths of time, for a total duration of 2 hours. A text serving as a script and offering detailed information about each movement will be available. Referencing the rich history of African and Latin dance, this work uses the body to conjure images at once abstract and intimate.
Zachary Fabri was born in Miami, Florida in 1977. Focusing on video and performance, his work seeks to create a space for discourse around social and political systems of oppression.
