Opening Reception | Photos: Rick Odell's My Better Half

Odell explains that each of the 23 images in his show is a double portrait that appears at first to represent a male and female couple. However, the pictures are, in fact, digitally manipulated composites of two photographs of the same subject - one of a man in drag persona masquerading as a woman and one of that same man with masculine attire and grooming. In images with more than two figures, each romantic pair is a single man cast in both gender roles. Shown: "Teena and Brian"

Opening Reception | Prints: Yashua Klos' Banners

During the mid-twentieth century, woodblock printing was, for many African American artists, an activist as well as artistic process. Printing multiples allowed for the work to be circulated outside of an exclusive art market. These artists believed that their work would best function where it was most useful - amongst the people. In this 'Banners' series, the viewer's vantage point looks downward upon the subject, while the scale of the figures challenge any pedestrian interaction with the image. Portraiture, in this case, becomes an act of representation where the image itself operates as propaganda. Shown: “Banners” 2008, woodblock print on muslin, 8 x 4 feet each, installation view

Discussion | The Brighton Beach Project

Join international theatre champion Elyse Dodgson as she and a trio of Russian-language playwrights uncover New York’s hidden immigrant histories—as well as that of Dodgson’s own family. In the 1960s, Dodgson’s mother filmed a documentary about life in Coney Island, a document now lost. That missing film and her own family’s emigration from Eastern Europe to Brighton Beach inspired Dodgson, known best as the much-lauded director of the Royal Court Theatre’s International Playwrights Programme, to commission three Russian-language playwrights to spend two weeks in Brighton Beach and to turn their findings into plays. Now Natalia Vorozhbit (Ukraine), Pavel Pryazhko (Belarus) and Mikhail Durnenkov (Russia) allow us a peek into their processes of confronting the twin neighborhoods of immigration and memory. Joining the conversation will be translator Sasha Dugdale and director Ramin Gray.

Theater | Shakespeare's As You Like It, Directed by Tony Winner Daniel Sullivan

Rosalind, Shakespeare's most breathtaking heroine, and her boyfriend Orlando find themselves in the enchanted Forest of Arden, where all the world's a stage, and where sudden infatuation is as confusing as it is beautiful. Along with other "country copulatives," they discover that nothing transforms, redeems, or enriches experience quite as powerfully as love. As You Like It has everything we adore about Shakespearean comedy: mistaken identity, cross-dressing, madness, mayhem, rage, lust, laughter, and of course plenty of romance, both heartbreaking and joyous. Featuring Brendan Averett, Andre Braugher, Donna Lynne Champlin, Grantham Coleman, Jon DeVries, MacIntyre Dixon, Susannah Flood, David Furr, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Andrew Hovelson, Robert Joy, Jesse Lenat, Erik Mathew, Omar Metwally, Oliver Platt, Lily Rabe, Will Rogers, Michael Rudko, Justine Salata, Paul Saylor, Anna Phyllis Smith, Stephen Spinella, and Brendan Titley.
