Dance Performance | Love Stories: Dance Featuring Stevie Wonder's Music (online through July 3)

June is African-American Music Appreciation Month and who better to appreciate this month than the legendary Stevie Wonder? His soulful music is a key ingredient to the success of the ballet Love Stories, which features choreography by Judith Jamison, Rennie Harris, and Robert Battle. This video excerpt (the finale to the piece) was created by Battle to represent the future of the Ailey company back in 2004. Little did he know that just six years later he would be personally selected by Jamison to take over from her as the Company's new Artistic Director. This performance, celebrating Mr. Battle's 10th anniversary leading the Company, was recorded at Ailey's Opening Night Gala in December 2021 at New York City Center.

Discussion | Construction History (online)

The sixth session of the 2022 Construction History lecture series Work in Progress brings together the key presenters and the additional speakers for a virtual roundtable review and discussion of what we learned from the talks and what framing questions should be applied in future research and scholarship. This session will also revisit one of the premises of the semester, which was to challenge both the persistent narratives of “the first skyscraper” in popular culture and the modernist mindset that has focused on the steel skeleton as the definition of the building type. We will discuss how “the history of history” has shaped our understanding of the processes of change and how broader perspectives might succeed in capturing the spotlight of the public imagination and discourse.

Book Discussion | Legendary Photographer Annie Leibovitz Discusses Her Book Wonderland

Annie Leibovitz is one of the most influential photographers of our time, as she talks about her new book. Fashion has been both the subject of, and the vehicle for, many of Leibovitz’s images, which have graced the covers and interiors of countless publications and magazines around the world. In conversation, Leibovitz will share stories from her ambitious fashion shoots—including looks by designers such Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent, and Rei Kawakubo—alongside tales of her encounters with a wide and diverse range of icons: from fashion designers such as Stella McCartney and Karl Lagerfeld to Kate Moss, Serena Williams, politicians Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Nancy Pelosi, and cultural figures—Queen Elizabeth II, Lady Gaga, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie—to name a few. Starting in 1970, when Leibovitz began creating what became her ground-breaking work for Rolling Stone, to her work at Vogue and Vanity Fair in the 1980s, and through to the present day, Leibovitz will reflect on her career, the individuals she has photographed, the editors she has worked with, and how her distinctive approach has developed and evolved over the last half-century. Don’t miss the opportunity to spend an evening with the legendary photographer as she grants you a passport into a world where fashion is revealed in unexpected subjects and places, and photography is celebrated in its highest form.
