The artists offer an expansion of systems, of publics, and a glimpse into the lives lived and loved within the urban ecosystem. They explore the alternative possibilities of street detritus, both natural and manufactured; hard-shell tacos, paper towels, Windex, egg shells, cigarettes, lollipops, plastic, leather and an assortment of mixed debris coagulate to create new ecologies. Scurrying critters become the de facto cohabitors you never knew you had. An attempt to quell the “chaos” takes place under the Adams administration in the form of the ‘Rat Tzar’, a Sisyphean display of control during a generation-defining housing and medical crisis. Amid meticulously manicured patches of corporate lawn and lush planters, invasive weeds resolutely disrupt the imposed order of the grid. In this whimsical interplay of encounters, the resilience of artists thriving in the city is evident, as they subvert the borders between the haves and the have-nots, the locals and the interlopers, the perfect specimens and the refuse. The weed will always prevail.
