Author Reading | Ayala Fader discusses her book Mitzvah Girls: Bringing Up the Next Generation of Hasidic Girls in Brooklyn

Dr. Ayala Fader will discuss her new book and show fresh images from her research with Hasidic women and children in Brooklyn, providing an in-depth look into a usually inaccessible world. Looking across the female life cycle, from infancy to marriage, Fader listens to everyday conversations in homes, schools and front yards. She examines how even as Hasidic society has become more strictly religious, Hasidic women and girls have unexpectedly become more involved in secular modernity.

As part of a year-long celebration of J.S Bach.s 325th birthday, organist Gail Archer plays a recital in tandem with her latest album Bach the Transcendent Genius, recorded on a Fritts organ at Vassar College.
