Workshop | Paper Pulping Workshop

Exhibiting artist and winner of the 2014 Alexander Wein Artist Prize Samuel Levi Jones will lead an interactive tour and in-depth paper pulping and book-binding workshop that illustrates the techniques he employed in fabricating works for his Project Space exhibition. His unique practice—which reworks diverse source materials, from encyclopedias and law books to technical manuals—literally breaks down these widely published arbiters of authenticity and confronts the irrelevance and inaccuracy of certain types of historical records. Through this practice of omission and the fracturing of information, Jones is able to forge a more personal alliance with the materials and will work with program participants to examine their own attachments to materials of their choosing. No experience necessary, however, please bring your own selection of paper source materials with you to the workshop.

Staged Reading | Play Reading: Laugh Track by Robert Strozier

You're sitting next to a guy at a play who laughs very loudly--annoyingly so--at all the funny parts. Does he maybe know someone in the cast, you wonder. You pointedly glance his way several times, hoping he'll get the hint and lower the volume. You stand to leave at the end, and he says, "Your looking at me repeatedly was really offensive." Tempers rise, words are exchanged, and you go your separate ways. Luckily, you'll never seen him again. Or…will you?
