Norma Rae works at the textile mill, just like a lot of her family before her. The pay is low, the hours are long, and the working conditions are lousy. But after hearing a rousing speech by Reuben, a labor activist, Norma is inspired to unionize her workplace and rally her fellow workers. Her decision causes tension in her family, especially with her fiance, Sonny, and creates contempt from her employers.
