Play | Hindle Wakes by Critically-Acclaimed Theater Company (streaming online through Mar 16 - watch anytime)

It's "Wakes Week" in Hindle, and with the mill closed, Fanny Hawthorn relaxes by the seashore. She meets Alan Jeffcote, the mill owner's son, and they spend a few fun days in a hotel in Wales. However, their fun ends when their parents find out. When Hindle Wakes premiered in 1912, critics hailed it as the best play of the year. Its unsentimental portrayal of two young people seeking pleasure without commitment sparked moral outrage, fueling heated debates and making the play a hit.

Opening Reception | Mwinga Sinjela: Grasslands

The very name of the exhibition represents savannas in Mwinga’s native Zambia, where vast open spaces stretch to the horizon and have come to represent abundant possibilities and life. GRASSLANDS is a celebration of Black and Queer people and is heavily inspired by Afrofuturism, science fiction, animation, and comics which are all mediums that allow Mwinga to tap into a source of boundless possibility and imagination. The very foundations of these genres are all born out of artists taking stock of the world around them and incorporating what they see into their vision of tomorrow which is essential to Mwinga’s art practice.
