Concert | An Homage to Italian Singer Alberto Rabagliati


Alberto Rabagliati (1906-1974), the superstar of Italian song and Italian radio, and the creator of "Swing Made in Italy," did not start as a singer. Competing against 2 million men, he won a worldwide contest for a Rudolph Valentino lookalike, landed in Hollywood and then started a singing career as band vocalist with the Lecuona Cuban Boys. Years later he had his own radio show in Italy creating some sort of mass hysteria among his feminine fans. His hits include "Ma l'amore no", "Mattinata fiorentina", "Ba-Ba-Baciami Piccina", and "Bambina innamorata". With M.O. Alfredo Bonavera, tenor Gilbert Rolle, and pianist Frank Ponzio.

Originally from Philadelphia, Levin has performed as a leader and a sideman for the last fifteen years. He has played with multiple vocalists and instrumentalists since returning to New York in 2001. He has appeared at clubs throughout the city, and can most frequently be found leading his own trio at such clubs as Kavehaz, Detour, Rue B and Night and Day. Besides leading his trio, he performs regularly with vocalists Ayana del Valle and Heather Moran.
