Struth first came to artistic prominence in the 1970s with his black-and-white photos. His recent work has focused on the confluence of nature, technology and architecture. From 2002 -2003, a retrospective of his work traveled to the Dallas Museum of Art; The Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), Los Angeles; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; and The Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), Chicago. In conversation with Gil Blank, a writer and photographer whose work has most recently been exhibited at P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center and White Columns, New York. He has also served as a contributing editor of photographic criticism for Art On Paper, Issue and Whitewall magazines and was a founding editor of Influence, an independently published magazine devoted to contemporary image-making.
