Discussion | Forensics and the Mystery Writer: Is It Science or Fiction?

Harking back to how detectives of generations and centuries past went about their quest for forensic evidence is a passion among historical mystery and true crime writers. But what if there's hardly a clue as to what really happened? Can writers tell how old-time investigators convinced judges and juries with the accepted science of the day? Or how early detectives analyzed and foiled perpetrator psychopathology? Do authors infer? Extrapolate? Create? These master historical mystery storytellers comment on their research methods - as well as their history-based plot- and character-building craft. With moderator E.W. Count and panelists Lyndsay Faye, Stefanie Pintoff, and E. J. Wagner of Mystery Writers of America/New York Chapter.
