Conor McGrady discusses his current solo exhibition The Judgement of History with artist, curator and writer Nina Horisaki-Christens. Emerging from an exploration of individual and collective selfhood in conflict situations, McGrady's recent works examine contemporary society's fascination with power and status.
Conor McGrady is a Brooklyn-based artist. Originally from Downpatrick, Northern Ireland, he earned an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1998. Besides being exhibited at the 2002 Whitney Museum of American Art Biennial, his work has been shown in a number of US and European institutions including White Columns, the Chicago Cultural Center, and Gallery Karas, Zagreb, Croatia. McGrady is currently the editor of Curated Spaces, a regular feature in the journal Radical History Review.
Nina Horisaki-Christines is a Brooklyn-based curator, artist and writer. While serving as Assistant Curator at Art in General from 2008-2010, she curated projects with a number of individual artists and managed the organization's Eastern European Residency Exchange Program. Horisaki-Christines has also curated independent projects at BRIC Rotunda Gallery (NY), Nurture Art (NY), and the Foothills Arts Center (CO), and was awarded a 2009 Lori Ledis Emerging Curator Fellowship. Her sculptures, installations and performances have been exhibited at locations including Hosfelt Gallery (NY), Socrates Sculpture Park (NY), the Incheon Women Artists' Biennial (Korea), Flux Factory (NY), and Fort Gondo (St. Louis). Her writings have appeared in publications produced by Art in General, Performa09, and Flux Factory. She is currently a resident at LMCC's Swing Space Program on Governors Island.
