Gallery Talk | A Talk on Jenny Chen's Exhibition Without End

With Jonathon Goodman, art critic, and Joanne W. Chen, curator. For Jenny Chen, abstract paintings are portraits of the "mind." The mind changes and so do her paintings. That difference is, in fact, a nature state between the creator and the viewer. Abstract painting is an object of multiple sides. In her work, Chen looks for the meditation space between fantasy and reality. Shown: “Flow 2010-01” 2010, Mixed media, Canvas, 60x48 in.

Staged Reading | Play Reading: The Natasha Plays by Yaroslava Pulinovich

The Natasha Plays – two one-act, one-woman plays: I Won! and Natasha's Dream, which catapulted their young playwright, Yaroslava Pulinovich, to prominence in theater circles in Russia. They are compelling portraits that delve deep into the souls and the experience of two very different young women from one of Russia's provincial cities. Their inner and outer worlds seem almost polar opposites... until they drift, almost imperceptibly, towards an unexpected point of convergence.

Opening Reception | The Greatest Show on Earth, New Paintings by Daniel Merriam

Although life in the circus depends on discipline, struggle and sacrifice, it is divergent thinking that is the catalyst for the magic. This show is dedicated to the performer and the double lives they must lead. A new collection of paintings by Daniel Merriam depicts both the pain and pleasure of struggle not only in the circus, but also in the lives we lead in an urban society. The artist invites us to explore the pressures and and delicate balance that is required in order to remain above the chaos of every day life. Just as the performer clings to the wire above the ever-present color and distractions, so must the viewer avoid mistakes by focusing on what matters most. Daniel Merriam's exhibitions throughout the United States and Europe have been lauded and achieved critical acclaim. Merriam's work is included in countless private collections and in such public collections as The Riverside Museum of Art in California, The Gesundheit! Institute in Virginia, the Manhattan Club in New York, and the Merrill Lynch collection.
